John W. Lister, AIA, Principal
Born and raised in southern California, John always knew he wanted to be an architect. After completing his education at University of Southern California, John started his career with Skidmore Owings and Merrill, notably working on the Universal Studios Amphitheater and Getty Oil World headquarters.
Before launching JL Architects, John was the lead project architect on estate homes in Mexico and Maryland and the youngest architect ever named associate at Robinson-Willis, PC in Washington, DC. JL Architects was founded in 1988, and the firm’s focus has evolved to include retail centers, restaurants, entertainment, office buildings, manufacturing, industrial, and multi-family housing.
John is a member of The American Institute of Architects and ICSC. He serves on the Green Building Initiative’s national Board of Directors leading the Government Engagement Committee. The current Chair of the West Chester Area Council of Governments Building Code Variance Board, John was also previously the Chair of East Bradford Planning Commission.
